Title: Chronic hM3Dq signaling in microglia ameliorates neuroinflammation in male mice Document date: 2020_1_28
ID: ely200x3_5
Snippet: Cholinergic signaling is involved in the modulation of central and peripheral inflammation (Lehner et al., 2019; Pavlov and Tracey, 2015) , however, we still have limited information about how microglia respond to activation of cholinergic receptors in vivo. Microglia have been reported to express the α3, α5, α6, α7 and β4 nicotinic channel subunits (Liu et al., 2009; Rock et al., 2008; Shytle et al., 2004; Suzuki et al., 2006) . Expression .....

Expression of muscarinic receptors on cultured microglia has also been demonstrated (Pannell et al., 2016; Zhang et al., 1998) . In cultured microglia, acetylcholine seems to exert mainly an anti-inflammatory effect on microglia. For instance, acetylcholine and nicotine inhibited TNF-α release in response to LPS stimulation (Shytle et al., 2004) and nicotine reduced free radical production in response to β-amyloid (Moon et al., 2008) .
