A diagnosis of leptospirosis was confirmed based on compatible clinical findings and the presence of at least one of the following: positive single MAT titre ≥1:800 (n=66), MAT seroconversion (n=102), positive IgM lateral flow assay (n=16), positive urine RT‐PCR (n=4), or strong clinical suspicion not confirmed serologically due to early death (n=23). Control dogs were diagnosed with AKI‐nL based on a convincing alternative diagnosis and at least a negative serology. Annual incidences and vaccine effectiveness were compared between groups, the latter being expressed as odds ratio (OR) for being diagnosed with leptospirosis.
