Document: Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA). Continuous variables are shown as median (interquartile range or IQR), and categorical data as percentage. The comparison of two medians was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test; and the comparison of percentages with the chi-squared test. Multivariate analysis was performed to determine whether the admission neutrophil count was a risk factor for mortality, after adjusting for admission lymphocyte count, PaO 2 /FiO 2 , CD3+, CD4+ and CRP >60 mg/L. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine blood parameters at admission as predictors of mortality. A P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant for all analyses.
