The Pantanal is almost totally inundated during the rainy season in October-March, with mean monthly precipitation of 145 mm; during the dry season in April-September, its mean monthly precipitation is only 48 mm. Climate is seasonal, with warm, wet summers and cold, dry winters; wintersummer temperatures are 18-42°C (Cavalcanti and Gese 2009; Trolle 2003) .
