Title: Molecular analysis of sarcoidosis lymph nodes for microorganisms: a case–control study with clinical correlates Document date: 2013_12_21
ID: 3unap1o9_116
Snippet: Although no infectious agent has been cultured directly from sarcoidosis tissues, clinical and immunologic characteristics of the disorder provide the strongest support for a microbial etiology, at least in some patients. Document: Although no infectious agent has been cultured directly from sarcoidosis tissues, clinical and immunologic characteristics of the disorder provide the strongest support for a microbial etiology, at least in some patients. [5] [6] [7] To explore a possible infectious cause in patients seen at the Moffitt Cancer Center, we correlated the clinical presentation and long-term follow-up of sarcoidosis patients with the presence of bacterial DNA in archived, surgically-resected mediastinal lymph nodes. Results from sarcoidosis nodes were compared to control lymph nodes resected at the time of lung surgery in node-negative, Stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients.
