Document: Tang Center and LifeLong have different electronic medical records (EMR) management systems, and have different mechanisms for connecting a patient record to a barcode that is compatible with our robotic accessioning step. As such, their kits differ in whether the IGI provides barcodes or whether the barcodes are generated within the healthcare system. The Tang Center and LifeLong are responsible for requisitioning a test for a patient, collecting the specimen, and integrating that sample into their EMR. Following transport to the IGI, the acquisition personnel perform multiple checks to confirm that all barcodes and patient identifiers, if present, match those on tubes, within kits, and on requisitions or manifests. Samples that do not match are rejected for specimen re-collection. With a verified barcode, the LIMS tracks specimen progress through the testing pipeline and returns a result. That result needs to be re-matched with a patient record when testing is complete and reported.
