Furthermore, a square-root transfor- mation was used to help normalize the distribution of the model residuals. The least squares means for water consumption have been back-transformed and are presented accordingly in Table 2 . Calves treated with MEL consumed significantly more water than PLA-treated calves (P < 0.001). Specifically, this effect can be attributed to the improved water intake by MEL-treated calves from wk 3 through 6 after diarrhea (P < 0.05; Table 2 ).
