Title: Emodin induces apoptosis in human hepatocellular carcinoma HepaRG cells via the mitochondrial caspase-dependent pathway Document date: 2018_8_2
ID: 02r8i5n1_26
Snippet: Emodin is a naturally occurring anthraquinone present in various traditional medicinal plants including Polygonum multiflorum Thunb., Polygonum cuspidatum, Rheum palmatum L. and Cassia occidentalis (9) (10) (11) (12) . Previous studies have demonstrated that emodin possessed many pharmacological properties, such as antiviral, anti-allergic, antiosteoporotic, anti-diabetic, immunosuppressive and neuroprotective activities (19) (20) (21) (22) (23) .....
Document: Emodin is a naturally occurring anthraquinone present in various traditional medicinal plants including Polygonum multiflorum Thunb., Polygonum cuspidatum, Rheum palmatum L. and Cassia occidentalis (9) (10) (11) (12) . Previous studies have demonstrated that emodin possessed many pharmacological properties, such as antiviral, anti-allergic, antiosteoporotic, anti-diabetic, immunosuppressive and neuroprotective activities (19) (20) (21) (22) (23) (24) (25) . However, previous studies have demonstrated that emodin causes a variety of toxic effects such as genotoxicity (39) , reproductive toxicity (40) , nephrotoxicity (37) and hepatotoxicity (12, 28, 29, 41, 42) . In the present study, we utilized a novel cell model (HepaRG cells) to investigate the cytotoxicity of emodin and the underlying molecular mechanisms.
