Localization of the Lys, Asp, Glu, Leu tetrapeptide receptor to the Golgi complex and the intermediate compartment in mammalian cells

The data from tissue sections, and especially the early sper-matids, argue that the levels of the KDEL-R in the TGN are extremely low when compared to the amounts seen on the cis side of the stack. The same impression was obtained in NRK and HeLa ceils. In contrast, in the L cells infected with MHV (and to a lesser extent also in uninfected L cells), it seemed that there was more labeling over the whole Golgi stack. However, we were not confident that we were visualising the TGN under this condition. We therefore used two well-characterized model systems where the TGN is more distinct.
