NS2, which is also called the NEP, is a multifunctional protein involved in regulating the accumulation of vRNA, antigenomic complementary RNA and viral mRNA synthesized by the vRNA polymerase [9, 50, 51] . The protein is also implicated in the efficient release of budding virions [51, 52] . It seems likely that all of the major expressed proteins are stored in the nucleocapsid to provide additional export, import and viral polymerase functionality, but the exact contents and proportions are unknown.
