Document: A deterministic compartmental mathematical model was constructed to describe COVID-19 transmission dynamics in a given population, and was applied here to the population of China ( Figure S1 of Supplementary Information (SI)). The model was designed based on current understanding of the infection's natural history and epidemiology. The model consists of a set of coupled nonlinear differential equations that stratify the population into compartments according to age group, infection status, infection stage, and disease stage. Analyses were performed in MATLAB R2019a [7] .
