Document: A cross sectional and descriptive study was conducted from four districts of central Uganda (Kampala, Mpigi, Wakiso and Mukono; Fig. 1 ) from March to November 2013. These districts have the highest population of pigs in Uganda [18] . Only pig farms which contacted the ambulatory clinic of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Resources, Makerere University for veterinary services and those identified through district animal health workers (AHWs) were included in the study. Key informants included area AHWs and veterinary drug sellers. Only piglets that looked unthrifty and had a history of refractory diarrhea (unresponsive to antibiotic therapy) and dyspnoea were selected from study farms for detailed laboratory investigations.
