Document: Human diseases causing RNA viruses include Orthomyxoviruses, Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Ebola disease, SARS, influenza, polio measles and retrovirus including adult Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). RNA viruses have RNA as genetic material, that may be a single-stranded RNA or a double stranded RNA. Viruses may exploit the presence of RNA-dependent RNA polymerases for replication of their genomes or, in retroviruses, with two copies of single strand RNA genomes, reverse transcriptase produces viral DNA which can be integrated into the host DNA under its integrase function. Studies showed that endogenous retroviruses are long-terminal repeat (LTR)-type retroelements that account for approximately 10% of human or murine genomic DNA.
