In fact, one recent study showed that primeboost immunization of transgenic mice with 5 of the HLA-A*02:01 S peptides together with CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN) could significantly enhance the frequency of peptide-specific CD8 1 T cells. 27 Taken together, the S protein is not only capable of inducing neutralizing antibodies but also contains several immunogenic T cell epitopes. Some of these epitopes found in either the S1 or S2 domain of the protein should therefore be considered during SARS-CoV vaccine development.
