Second, filter efficiency can vary markedly with particle size. Across the range that is pertinent for bioaerosols, the filtration efficiency tends to be higher for larger particles than for smaller particles. A mechanically ventilated building with a high mechanical ventilation to infiltration flow rate ratio (Q M /Q L ≫ 1) and a high-efficiency filter (1Àg M ( 1) can provide a high degree of protection of the indoor environment from outdoor bioaerosols.
