Snippet: This study identified a candidate gene (CTNNA2), which codes for alpha-catenin, an essential protein of the adherens junctions and modulator of the canonical Wnt pathway. Although a mutation was not detected within the coding regions of the gene or within upstream enhancers of CTNNA2, Western blot revealed decreased levels of alpha-catenin (and the phosphorylated form of beta-catenin) in DMVD valves. Document: This study identified a candidate gene (CTNNA2), which codes for alpha-catenin, an essential protein of the adherens junctions and modulator of the canonical Wnt pathway. Although a mutation was not detected within the coding regions of the gene or within upstream enhancers of CTNNA2, Western blot revealed decreased levels of alpha-catenin (and the phosphorylated form of beta-catenin) in DMVD valves. These preliminary data may support the presence of a mutation located within the non-coding regions controlling CTNNA2 transcription and further investigation is warranted. We sought to investigate whether MAPSE and TAPSE were associated with survival time in cats with HCM.
