The observations that dogs started on a multi-drug protocol from the outset required a shorter treatment duration, had lower mortality and a lower relapse rate may reflect a type II error due to low group numbers. A prospective study with greater numbers is ongoing to investigate this further. Previous studies have demonstrated the ability of liposome-TLR ligand complexes (LTLC) to potently activate innate immune responses in several species, but they have not been fully evaluated for activity in cats. There is currently an unmet need for a broad spectrum immune stimulant for prevention or early treatment of viral and bacterial respiratory tract pathogens in cats. The purpose of the present study was to investigate in vitro responses of cat lymphocytes and monocytes to stimulation by LTLC.
