Snippet: We previously utilized beads to study the mechanism of the antiviral effect of various polymers. We found that the virus binds to iota-carrageenan beads, but not to agarose beads, and that the binding can be inhibited in the presence of an excess of dissolved iota-carrageenan. Thus, it was shown that binding of virus by iota-carrageenan beads is specific and that the virus binding mechanism of iota-carrageenan is identical in its dissolved and be.....
Document: We previously utilized beads to study the mechanism of the antiviral effect of various polymers. We found that the virus binds to iota-carrageenan beads, but not to agarose beads, and that the binding can be inhibited in the presence of an excess of dissolved iota-carrageenan. Thus, it was shown that binding of virus by iota-carrageenan beads is specific and that the virus binding mechanism of iota-carrageenan is identical in its dissolved and bead-coupled form. This qualifies iota-carrageenan beads to be used as a tool for studying the time dependency of virus binding by the polymer.
