Surprisingly, the age of the marrow donor was a much more critical variable for the induction of SGVHD than the age of the recipient. Furthermore, evidence is provided that the inability to induce SGVHD when using marrow from donors >3 mo of age is due to marrowderived mature T lymphocytes. Addition of these T cells to marrow from animals 1 mo of age inhibited the induction of SGVHD.
