Document: A pheromone lure consisting of the Þve synthetic components mentioned in the laboratory pitfall bioassays was applied to each rubber septum (100 g total, in 10 l methylene chloride), followed by 300 l methylene chloride. Untreated control septa received 300 l methylene chloride. The septa were loaded 2 h before use, stored in a tightly closed bottle and transported in an ice chest to the poultry house. The treated septa with control or pheromone lure were then dropped into the glass jar. A hole was made in the loose poultry house litter, and then the assembled trap was set in place, with the trap top slightly below the surface of the litter layer. Traps were cleaned with Alconox detergent, and dried at the end of the experiment.
