The fecal microbiome was characterized using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. qPCR assays were also used to specifically target Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium hiranonis, and Bifidobacterium spp. The metabolome was characterized by untargeted mass spectrometry-based methods. Two-way repeatedmeasures ANOVA tests were utilized to determine the effects of phase of treatment, time, and the interaction of phase and time.
