Document: Ultrasonographic examination of the pancreas showed no significant change after treatment. There was no histological evidence of pancreatitis in the right pancreatic lobe after treatment. Administration of prednisolone at 4 mg/kg/day for 2 or 3 weeks increased the serum cPLI concentration in six healthy dogs, although a clinically significant increase (≥400 lg/L) was observed in only one dog. Histological evidence of pancreatitis was not observed in any of the six dogs examined. In humans with acute pancreatitis (AP), treatment within 48 hours of onset is very important and can profoundly influence the prognosis. In dogs with AP, the efficacy of corticosteroid treatment is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the responsiveness to initial corticosteroid therapy and prognosis in dogs with AP.
