Even though a high incidence of diarrheal diseases could be a logical consequence of poor water quality and has been confirmed in many water-borne outbreak situations (22) , the benefit of a compulsory notification system for waterborne outbreaks is proved to be an effective tool for gathering information and increasing the awareness of possible problems related to the quality of drinking water (23) . But the impact of microbiologically contaminated water on AGI incidence confirmed by the link between the non-compliant results of water quality monitoring due to E. coli and AGI incidence, has not yet been studied.
