Control programs and adequate surveillance is of importance, but in rapidly growing cities and slums it can be tough to implement such measures. Emerging infectious diseases can also make the jump to stable transmission in the urban surroundings and surveillance of these can potentially prevent major health concerns and high cost for the health care services. WHO can play a major role in the fight for better control and knowledge. Many of the countries in the developing world do not have the proper resources and the problem is not concentrated to one region, but is a global concern.
