The majority of patients (84%) in the non-PCP group recovered without treatment for PCP [65] . In two recent meta-analyses, the sensitivity and specificity of quantitative PCR (qPCR) assays were superior to those of non-qPCR assays [66, 67] . The serum β-D-glucan test result has a high negative-predictive value but is not useful for the follow-up of PCP [68] . The prognosis is worse in the presence of concomitant infectious diseases, particularly CMV, Aspergillus, and so on. Steroids can be used as an adjunctive therapy in patients with hypoxia (PaO 2 ≤ 70 mmHg or PAO 2 -PaO 2 ≥ 35 mmHg).
