Document: The nectin family is a cell adhesion molecule family comprising four members (nectin-1-4), and only nectin-4 functions as the EpR (Mühlebach et al., 2011; Noyce et al., 2011) . Nectins contain immunoglobulin-like domains, similar to SLAM. The nectin family proteins have recently been shown to be essential contributors to the formation of cell-cell adhesions and are novel regulators of cellular activities, including cell polarization, differentiation, movement, proliferation, and survival (Takai et al., 2008; Ogita et al., 2010) . Nectins are also involved in the establishment of apical-basal polarity at cell-cell adhesion sites and the formation of tight junctions in epithelial cells (Takai et al., 2008; Ogita et al., 2010) .
