In the present study, all substitutions of the first aspartate residue of the SDD motif resulted in a lethal mutation. In agreement with previous studies [21] , the first aspartate residue of SDD is integral to the catalytic active site of the molecule and is absolutely conserved in the RdRp of PRRSV.
