For that purpose, SAA, Hp, IGF-1 and albumin serum concentrations were determined in 20 female cats with malignant mammary tumours. Cats with history of previous tumours or with concomitant tumours or other diseases were excluded. Information on cats age, gender, breed, tumour type, histological grade, tumour size and location, skin ulceration, vascular neoplastic infiltration, necrosis, metastasis to regional lymph nodes, thoracic or abdominal organs, and survival time from diagnosis was assessed. Blood samples were collected before surgery in all cats, and whenever possible, serial samples collected on control visits. Owners gave informed consent.
