Document: The commonly used enzymes in pathogen detection are alkaline phosphatase, beta-galactosidase, and horseradish peroxidase (HRP). A colorimetric assay based on alkaline phosphatase induced metallisation is applied to the detection of H9N2 avian influenza virus particles linked to immnomagnetic separation [135] . The color change induced when enzymes are combined with gold nanoparticle-induced silver deposition to enhance the optical signals as 4-6 folds higher than similar metal nanoparticle colorimetric methods. It is coupled with a magnetic bead-based sandwich immunoassay to detect the viruses in complex samples, such as chicken serum, without pretreatment and with a limit of detection as 17.5 pg/mL.
