These three proteins can be co-expressed in a single cell; however, their levels varied significantly among cells, as shown by immunofluorescence analysis. In addition, the intracellular localization of the RAN translation products varies, and polyAla proteins are dispersed in the cytoplasm but may form aggregates in the nucleus. PolyGln forms nuclear aggregates, and the least abundant polySer forms both cytoplasmic and nuclear aggregates (14) .
