Snippet: No conflicts of interest reported. Coagulation factor VII (FVII) deficiency has been reported in Beagles since the 1960's. Deficient dogs show a mild hemorrhagic tendency, but often remain asymptomatic and are incidentally discovered by an isolated prolonged prothrombin time due to <10% plasma FVII activity. Document: No conflicts of interest reported. Factor VII deficiency occurs commonly in Beagles, Alaskan Klee Kais and Scottish Deerhounds. In these 3 breeds it is caused by a single missense mutation (c.407G>A, p.Gly136Glu) in the second epidermal growth factorlike domain of FVII, which drastically reduces the secretion and activation of FVII. Research beagles were also commonly affected which may have pharmaco-toxicologically affected studies but specific DNA screening programs have been established.
