Document: Biomarker investigation in canine hepatopathies is still in its infancy. Decreases in serum 25â€hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)VD) and increases in Câ€Reactive Protein (CRP) and von Willebrand's factor (vWF) are associated with disease severity in human chronic inflammatory hepatopathies. This current prospective and observational study of dogs with chronic inflammatory hepatopathies investigated whether changes in serum concentration of 25(OH)VD, CRP, or vWF are present in these disorders, and these biomarkers are associated with hepatic copper levels, liver injury markers (i.e. alanine aminotransferase (ALT)), a cholestasis marker (i.e. total bilirubin), or markers of more advanced liver disease (i.e. fibrinogen, albumin)
