Accordingly, the authors believe that the use of steroid therapy in this patient without anti-TB medications may have led to dissemination of his TB infection. The empirical use of anti-TB medications may have been indicated during the first admission, but the patient had refused the diagnostic lymph node biopsy. In addition, the anti-TB medications were not initiated during the first admission because lymphoma was considered to be the likely diagnosis.
