Document: As mentioned above, due to ecological, environmental, and demographic factors that increase exposure to emerging pathogens, EID cases are increasing in prevalence globally. Together with the ongoing evolution of viral and microbial variants and selection for drug resistance, these factors will contribute to the continued emergence of EIDs. Therefore, there is an urgent need for effective surveillance and control strategies, as well as rapid vaccine development. Early warning of EIDs depends on the ability to identify the unusual as early as possible. Information is, therefore, essential and this can be achieved using systems biology tools.
