Snippet: Previous experiments showed that hydrophobic residues, such as cysteine, leucine and valine, on the surface of the protein are most likely to be part of antigenic determinants. Based on a semi-empirical method through making a statistics of appearance frequency of each amino acid in known segmental epitopes (11), we have predicted 16 antigenic sites of the N protein and found they are clustering in the middle and the C-terminus (Figure 4 and Tabl.....
Document: Previous experiments showed that hydrophobic residues, such as cysteine, leucine and valine, on the surface of the protein are most likely to be part of antigenic determinants. Based on a semi-empirical method through making a statistics of appearance frequency of each amino acid in known segmental epitopes (11), we have predicted 16 antigenic sites of the N protein and found they are clustering in the middle and the C-terminus (Figure 4 and Table 3). There is a strong antigenic site (TALALLLLDR) located around Codons 218-227. In addition, another three strong antigenic sites were detected around Codons 156-166 (AATVLQLPQGT), Codons 347-363 (FKDNVILLNKHIDAYKT) and Codons 389-398 (KQPTVTLLPA) (Table 3).
