Due to a deteriorating conscious state, he was intubated the following day and transferred to a tertiary center. Neurological examination upon arrival revealed a generalized flaccid paralysis. A magnetic resonance image of the brain demonstrated no abnormalities. Seizure activity developed on day 10 of his illness, for which anticonvulsant medication was commenced.
