For these reasons, an effective global surveillance system for novel pathogens is needed. Due to the diverse nature of antigenic variation of emerging pathogens and their various strategies to evade the immune system, EIDs continue to pose difficult challenges to clinicians, public health profes-sionals, and researchers globally.
