The clinical presentation of ZDL syndrome is mainly characterized by crusting dermatitis on head, ventrum, and joints and is therefore strikingly similar to BHZD. Lesions further include mucosal ulcerations of upper digestive tract, inflammation of respiratory and digestive tracts, thymic atrophy, and lymphadenopathy. This study shows that this phenotype and the absence of treatment responses to zinc supplementation should alert the clinician about ZDL syndrome.
