UPC tends to increase with phosphorus and ALP increasing (p < 0.0001 and p = 0.0005 respectively); while the role of phosphorus in CKD is well known, the increase of ALP is questionable: it has been hypothesized that higher ALP levels in CKD could be related to B-ALP increase due to bone remodelling in secondary renal hyperparathyroidism. Considering urine parameters, UPC increases when urinary specific gravity and pH decrease (probably related to worsening of CKD and development of a metabolic acidosis) and when glicosuria is present, regardless of the cause.
