Viral infection affects pregnancy and fetal growth by gaining access to the placenta and decidua via hematogenous transmission or the lower reproductive tract, leading to the occurrence of such adverse outcomes [42] . However, effects can vary across cell types, gestational age, and changes in the uterine environment and maternal immunity [42] . Therefore, earlier preparedness of the healthcare sectors to handle these adverse consequences would be helpful to reduce further adverse outcomes, including maternal and perinatal mortality.
