Development and validation of an early warning score (EWAS) for predicting clinical deterioration in patients with coronavirus disease 2019

This study was based on two datasets of Chinese patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 from 35 hospitals in two Chinese provinces. The inpatients from 33 hospitals in Guangdong Province were used as the training dataset to derive a score in predicting clinical deterioration of COVID-19 within 14 days after admission, whereas the inpatients from Wuhan Hankou Hospital (Wuhan, Hubei Province, China) and Honghu People's Hospital (Jingzhou, Hubei Province, China) were used for external validation of the scoring system.
