EFFECTS OF COVID-19 INFECTION DURING PREGNANCY AND NEONATAL PROGNOSIS: WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE?

infection during pregnancy and neonatal prognosis. Twelve studies were eligible and included case reports, descriptive and analytical studies presenting low levels of evidence. The low levels of evidence are due to the novelty of COVID-19 pandemic and the need for rapidly acquiring knowledge to support public policies. As the number of cases increases worldwide, evidence about the impact of this virus during pregnancy for both women and newborns is expected to become stronger, especially with the development of more robust comparative studies and follow-up with control groups. Nonetheless, in the absence of more robust evidence, the results found in this review show pregnant women must be cautious and vigilant considering that being exposed to the virus, even at the end of pregnancy, has important implications, especially in terms of the type of childbirth.
