Document: Extended Use. A test lung was ventilated for 48 hours under the conditions the machine would experience in ICU. Pooled water appeared in the inspiratory limb of the humidified breathing system after 24 hours, but this was easily decanted back into the water bath. That is an intended behaviour of the Fisher & Paykel humidification system. At 48 hours the test was stopped, the anaesthetic machine stripped down and the anaesthetic machine gas pathways examined. There was no water in the patient Cassette. The Bridge and its seals were dry and there was no water in the Scavenging Exhaust system.
