Follow-up time was right-censored on April 14 th , 2020. Secondary outcomes included frequency and duration of invasive mechanical ventilation, frequency of vasopressor use and renal replacement therapy, and the time to inhospital clinical deterioration following admission, defined as an increase of one-point from baseline on a 7-point ordinal scale. This scale, designed to assess clinical status over time, was based on that recommended by WHO for use in clinical research among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 (Table S1 in data supplement). 12
