Eligible individuals were ≥30 years of age and were registered with a general practice between 1 January 1997 and 1 January 2017 with at least one year of follow-up data. Demographic (age, gender, index of multiple deprivation (IMD) quintiles and geographic region) and baseline characteristics were recorded (17, 18) . The overall population at high risk of COVID-19 and recommended for social distancing was defined as per Public Health England guidance(10).
