Document: Today (22 March 2020) the government announced that 1.5 million 'extremely vulnerable' people with underlying conditions would be asked to 'shield' for 12 weeks (12) . The mortality risk of the conditions on this new list was not reported, nor are the national NHS data defining these conditions readily accessible for research scrutiny. It is likely that patients with conditions not on the list (as shown in figure 3 ) may be at as high or greater mortality than those who are; for example, those with heart failure. Cardiovascular disease is not on the list and here we show that the 1 year mortality is 6%; we found that the 1 year mortality risk of people with 2 or more conditions was 11% -but multiple morbidities co-occurring in the same individual are not on the list.
