Prior to NGS preparation, ten microliters of each library sample (~10 8 pfu/µL) was denatured at 100 °C for 15 minutes to lyse the phage and release the encapsulated DNA. The workflow for NGS sample preparation was based on manufacturers recommendation (Illumina 16S Metagenomic Sequencing Protocol).
