Snippet: Potential mechanisms for varying stoichiometries of viral proteins encoded by a single-ORF genome. Document: Potential mechanisms for varying stoichiometries of viral proteins encoded by a single-ORF genome. Virus reproduction requires different viral protein stoichiometries at distinct replicative cycle stages, a challenge for a single-ORF genome theoretically producing equimolar quantities of encoded polypeptides. For example, the putative structural proteins encoded by 3'ORFs are needed in much larger quantities than replicative enzymes at the end of nidovirus infection, and vice versa. We analysed the PSCNV genome and its transcript expression to resolve this apparent paradox.
