Title: Impact of viral epidemic outbreaks on mental health of healthcare workers: a rapid systematic review Document date: 2020_4_6

Snippet: In general, main risks of bias in the 50 cross-sectional studies were the lack of use of reliable and valid instruments to measure mental health outcomes (high risk of bias in 22% of the studies) and selection bias (12%). The main sources of bias across the seven cohort studies were selection bias (43%) and inadequate follow-up of the cohorts (29%). Document: In general, main risks of bias in the 50 cross-sectional studies were the lack of use of reliable and valid instruments to measure mental health outcomes (high risk of bias in 22% of the studies) and selection bias (12%). The main sources of bias across the seven cohort studies were selection bias (43%) and inadequate follow-up of the cohorts (29%). Main sources of bias of the two uncontrolled before-after studies were bias in selection of participants, and bias in outcome measurement. The case-control and the systematic review identified did not present serious risks of bias. Results of the risk of bias assessment are provided in Online Appendix 3.
