Since first time in summer 2012 in some countries in the Arabian Peninsula there were a number of severe infections of the respiratory tract caused by the new coronavirus. The majority of cases of illness were reported from Saudi Arabia, in Germany several imported cases of the disease have been reported. After beginning with flu-like-symptoms usually follows a pneumonia with a transition to an acute respiratory distress syndrome. The mortality rate is estimated at 55%. In the travel medical advice it should be elucidated about the disease and for that reason it is of great importance also for occupational medicine.
